Judith Scott - artist  1943-2005

"One of the most important artists of the twentieth century, not only in Art Brut,
but also in the context of contemporary art."
Dr. Johann Feilacher,  Artistic Director, Museum Gugging, Vienna, Austria

"One of the most important bodies of work – ‘insider’ or ‘outsider’ – produced anywhere, and under any circumstances, in the past twenty years."
Matthew Higgs, Director, White Columns, New York

Mistakenly branded in childhood as profoundly retarded, Judy was to spend thirty-five dismal years in institutional custody before the  love of her twin sister intervened to obtain her release,  setting her on that mythic journey from darkness into light, which would win for her international acclaim as an artist of exceptional talent and originality.

Dedicated to her memory,  this website tells Judy's remarkable story .
